This morning, I was doing exactly what I did not want to be doing: scrolling through social media. As hard as I strive to avoid the negative noise on social media, it always seems to pop into my feed. So, I deleted my social media apps from my phone. Taking a break from it will help me to sleep better, at the very least. After deleting the apps and turning my phone off, I reached over to pick up my Bible. The translation I am currently reading and using for study is the New American Standard Bible. As I laid my Bible down on the desk, the pages settled on Psalm 146. Very timely, indeed.
Psalm 146
Praise [b]the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2 I will praise the Lord while I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 Do not trust in princes,
In [c]mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
4 His spirit departs, he returns to [d]the earth;
In that very day his thoughts perish.
5 How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 Who made heaven and earth,
The sea and all that is in them;
Who keeps [e]faith forever;
7 Who executes justice for the oppressed;
Who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free.
8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;
The Lord raises up those who are bowed down;
The Lord loves the righteous;
9 The Lord [f]protects the [g]strangers;
He [h]supports the fatherless and the widow,
But He [i]thwarts the way of the wicked.
10 The Lord will reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, to all generations.
[j]Praise [k]the Lord!
-Psalm 146, New American Standard Bible.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, worried, or even fearful by what you read in the news, on social media, etc., I pray that Psalm 146 will fill you with peace.
PS. I had some trouble with my site and today, finally, I think it is all worked out. Time to get back to writing and actually sharing some of it! Hugs.
