An Update.
I started Wegovy (pill form) one week ago today. I started on the recommended low introductory dose.
Day 1 was fine.
Day 2 was not.
About 2 hours after taking the second dose, exactly as prescribed, I experienced wicked nausea and a headache. Both gradually became worse as the day progressed. I ate small bits of bland foods and sipped water throughout the day but basically ended up on the sofa by afternoon. After an early bedtime, my long-controlled acid reflux came roaring back. Around midnight, I started vomiting. The next two days were not good.
I have not taken another dose after day two. I didn’t think I would be able to keep it down.
The scale is down eight pounds—although I’m quite certain several of those pounds would like to be credited to two miserable days and dehydration, so I’m not exactly celebrating that number.
What I did get for my $149 was a rather dramatic shove back toward the path I was planning to take alongside the GLP-1 anyway: meal planning, meal prep, logging my food, walking, and strength training.
This was my personal experience with Wegovy, and I know many people have very different—and very positive—experiences with GLP-1 medications.
While I am disappointed in my body’s very loud reaction, there really is no bad news.
The plan changed. The goal didn’t.
Stay tuned.
